Big Bang Seung Ri 2008 SBS Gayo Daejeon Awards

Will happen at the 2008 SBS Gayo Daejeon Awards tonight.

Big Bang member Seung Ri will finally get his chance to prove that he isn't the most useless member of the group, by performing his solo track "Strong Baby" from Big Bang's 2nd album, "Remember."

Big Bang will wrap up their performances of Sunset Glow by year end and Seung Ri will officially begin his solo debut in the new year. This reminds me of a bumper sticker I recently ran across, it said something like, "Boldly Going Nowhere."

Stay tuned for our full coverage of the 2008 SBS Gayo Daejeon Awards later today.

BOLDLY GOING NOWHERE. LOL. GENIUS. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THAT ON MY CAR. if i had one. and if i could drive.

yawn whatever you people can talk crap all you like. the reason they not replying quick they got to think of bull to say. plus generalizing is so wrong. just because you are black or white dont mean you will think racist things about someone. hell i am black i am not yapping about all the different racist things that can be said about asian people

no avatar

The problem i have is that i feel sad, its weird to support someone who says something that especially when its something good to support. I think its because if you saw me you would probably call me African American without knowing the 16 other places in the World that make me up. It would be like if your favorite American or non-korean artist said something ignorant about who you are.

I’m over it now, because no one is saying “HA! i agree 100% Seung Ri!!!!”

wonder's avatar

What he said wasn’t racist. It was being prejudice and using stereotypes. He didn’t say he hated AA or that asians were better. I’m not sticking up for what he said cause it was obviously ignorant. But if people are gonna argue at least argue with the right terms. People throw around the word racist too easily.

who was the idiot who said blacks and asian are known for not getting along? O_o wtf that’s just plain stupid. My best friend’s black, and my “circle” includes people of all race. I guess that only applies to people like you who stick to the “all asian circle”? pshh. pathetic.

@50 totally agree, my parents (chinese)and most people who grew up in asian countries don’t have the full perspective of other cultures. Since there isn’t a strong black community there they don’t see their culture everyday. They see movies, music, tv. And it doesn’t help that the songs rap artist make are all about getting shot, sluts, butches, drinking, money, and the hood.

We can’t really look at this from our perspective. Still as an idol he should just avoid anything racial.

@lmao: I’m guessing you’re an “abc” or raised in the U.S.? Most of us who are raised i the u.s or in the west in general are a lot more open. Because we live where there are all types of people. Unless you live in a huge city in asia you’re not going to see other races that often. When i went back to China for a summer in Fuzhou i saw all asians, all the time.

Older asian’s and some asian’s who are exposed to blacks, hold prejudices against them. Especially immigrants who see freaking 50 cent running around with guns and bulletproof vest.

It’s always good to have asian’s friends or friends of whatever race you are. My white friends wouldn’t understand things that another asian kid would.

EERYBODY STOP!!!!! lol, did i get your attention? please stop, i must admit when i read the first couple of comments about what happend i was deeply insulted (im black british) but after reading a couple of comments, i came to reailze that probarly just said it beacuse thats all you hear about black men these days, its the same as in london, you hear of a teenage boy being stabbed at least every week for know reason, so i dont blame him for saying those things.

lol, if hes so racist, they should send him to ghana (my home country) and let him see for himself how welcoming africans are!!!

anyway, i know i have said some mean things about people, but to tell you the truth, (please dont laugh)....I LOVE ASIAN MEN MOER THAN BLACK MEN!!!! its true!, black guy has to be extremely good-looking for me to like him otherwise i wouldnt give him a second glance lol, theres something about korean, chinese or japanese men that makes me swoon *sigh*

ok i’v said too much, as for me, seungri probarly didnt mean it, but if they are going to debut in america, then he better watch himself!!!

pijiu - “Your baby? Most celebs wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire, no offence.”

^—Nor would we piss on them.  But they’re still our babies on TV, so get over it..?

He was racist? Hmm…not good. He should know by now that even one SMALL mistake can earn him a bad reputation. I mean, we all love finding out bad points about stars right? It doesn’t matter, that was still pretty offensive. It’s funny though how offended the Asian community gets when people are racist to them, but in truth we are the most racist society out there…:P

musicislove's avatar

didn’t he apologize?
besides, growing up in korea (i grew up in korea) you hear a lot of racists comments about other cultures (even asian ones.) when you are exposed to that type of environment it’s not hard to imagine why someone would say those things.
everytime i go back to korea my grandmother ask me if i’m making korean friends. >.< older korean people are really closed minded. *sigh*

@lmao: it’s pathetic how you can misread my comments. I didn’t say that they don’t get along at all, I was saying there was still tension between the two races in general. Maybe not so much in some parts of America, but throughout the world, yes.

P.S. I don’t have an all Asian circle. Hell,I’m not even Asian.

OMFG! what was the racist comment!!
i read like most of the pervious comments and none of them sed the comment gosh…im really annoyed now.

I love this song… it’s different. Adore it! I can dance to it all day!!!

I don’t think he’s really being racist when he said that. You’ve gotta remember, he’s a kid… and kids sometimes say the most stupid things. Granted… he’s a celeb and should learn to watch his mouth… but still… I don’t think he says stuff like that cos he is truly racist…

@CandyGirl89 - WHO ARE YOU?!?!?! hahaha, i mean, are you for real? can you honestly tell me that you have never looked at a person of ANY race or background and thought, “i think they are japanese/european/african/whatever”, because EVERYONE does it, and that, im afraid, is a generalization.
and have you never made fun of yourself? i mean, you clearly your life is just devoted to avoiding all types of generalizations and stereotypes, but do you have a sense of humor at all? i would consider myself cultured. i was raised by a white jew and an asian catholic in a diverse city, and exposed to all types of cultures, but i watch tv, and ive laughed at jokes about ALL races. i love chris rock, russell peters, gabriel iglecias, you name them and ive laughed at the expense of the various races they’ve poked fun at, but i also know when people go too far. im not saying that you are actually a skinhead or anything, but if you own a tv, read a magazine, do ANYTHING, you are subjected to stereotypes and generalizations that shape your thoughts and opinions. it is impossible to shut yourself off from it. and in the end, it depends on how you act on these feelings.
i am a hardcore seungri fan, and if he has these sort of thoughts, fine, hes ignorant. but until he starts going around lighting crosses on fire, im going to stick behind him.

ps. but how do you feel about gay people?

Wow candygirl89, you are just full of something.  All because of that incident you just label him as racist?????!!!!????!!!!! Are you out of your effing mind? JUST WOW! You know what?  You might be right, he could be a plain racist with deep hatred towards people who have black skins…or he might just be a plain ignorant and he is just stereotyping…or maybe he was just joking…or maybe because he was young… or god knows what else…I am a nurse.  In my field, ASSUMING IS BULL$H!T…You are singling him out because of that incident….WOW!!! You are really are full of something alright…Full of crap!!! You cant just point and label him racist because of that…Are you serious? For me, what he said is wrong and he should be careful on the things he says because he is an idol now and a lot of people look up at him…AND YOU???? “Oh hE is soOoO rAciSt“…His comments are racist…doesn’t mean he is racist….You don’t know him.  I don’t know him.  Your just assuming he is racist because of his comment…which is BULL$H!T to me (and I hope to a lot of people too)…everyone is a racist at some point of their time(like one of the reply said) and for some god-knows-why-reason, apparently you are not…Can you empathize?(I don’t want your sympathy)…empathize with us(me, seung ri, and many people who have said some racist comments in their life)…I know I am not racist but sometimes little stereotyopes form in my head when im angry…Im all for eradicating racism…but lets not go crazy and start a witchhunt.
Anywayz, I saw the performance…DAAAAAAMN HOOOOOOOOOOT! He improve his singing too.  He is growing up…NOOOOOOOO!!!! I don’t want him to grow up Seung ri!!! Your still my baby (with jae joong, lolz).

As much as it was a bad move to go change in someone else’s car and say some stupid stereotypical statement nation wide, it’s sorta hilarious.

His dance instructor was black, too. So was he trying to be funny?

IDC, I didn’t like him much anyway.

I can’t believe he wpuld make a racist mark like that. Oh well, I have two words for him——-BARRACK OBAMA!!!

no avatar

But even though he said that, I can’t get mad at him. I’m African-American and i don’t think it was offensive. It shocked me—-don’t get me wrong—-but we all learn from our mistakes. As long as he doesn’t make another one of those statements, he and I are as cool as the other side of the pillow. And another thing, NEWSFLASH PEOPLE-he isn’t a racist. He was stating a stereotype. There’s a difference. Being a racist means that you hate and can’t stand to be in the same room with another race. A stereotype is basically an observation other races make to classify another certain race. Like for an example: Tall people are good at basketball, black people love fried chicken(well, i do. <3)asians can’t drive and etc. But we can’t get mad at him because he blurted out a stereotype. Just hope he learn from his mistake and doesn’t make another one like that EVER again.

Omg! People it’s a sterotype. He isn’t racist - I’m black. And I make those sterotypes all the time. Yessh, dude. Have you seen Oh my Friend - he’s with a BLLLAAACK man, I mean A BLLACCK man! Is he screeching or whatever NOPE. I call a racist a person who says this:

‘I am glad I didn’t face a black man - he could have killed me with his hood - he’s just so dark. Don’t they wash? ’

Yessh. I don’t think he’s racisr cos he has black dance teachers for god sake. o.O THINK!
And THEY ARE A HIP HOP/RAP GROUP!
Peoopleeee think. They aren’t Girls Generation ... hessh.
