Reading the other comments, people obviously do not understand what winning a GDA means. There’s really nothing to argue about. Album sales, like MIAK (http://www.miak.or.kr/navigator.php?contents=html&usemode=list&DB=117), are publicized after all.
I just wanted to add, I think the voting can only be done through the phone or messaging…so no cheating there either.

Ok, guys the results are out so there’s no point arguing. I like Big Bang and I wish that they had been present at the awards, too. The Jewelery win for Digital Daesang was a bit of a surprise of me actually O.o

and for those saying GDA is rigged… GET OVER IT. 80% of it is based on actual sales and stats, so if there is any biased judging (*COUGH *MKMF*COUGH) then it’s minimal. You can say so and so won because they have a bigger fanbase, but hey, fans drive the sales forwards so like it or not it’s legit. Congrats to the winners, they deserved it.

First, I want to congratulate DBSK for winning the Grand Prize at GDA!  They were totally awesome.  I was blown away by their “Witch” performance.  That’s one of my favorite song from their album.  It was so cool that they sang it LIVE!  I’m very happy for them.  They have achieved so much in such a short time.  Also, I want to congratulate Jewelry and the other winners of GDA.  The people that won in this show are the cream of the crop of Kpop.  If you watch the Golden Disk Award Show, the host said “Golden Disk Award is the most authoritative and objective music award show in Korea.  Winners are determined by actual sales of albums.”  The host also stated that GDA is the Korea’s Grammy show and they have the top music authority and tradition.  Winning an award from Golden Disk is very prestigious because they look at statistics and they have professional music critics as judges.  MKMF is comparable to a MTV Music Award Show.  Which one is more respected?  Of course, Golden Disk Award.  Every Kpop artist wants to win it because it’s the most important and respected music award show.  In the history of GDA, they don’t usually like to give out music awards to idols.  DBSK sales number were too big to be ignored.  They outsold everyone even though they came back for less than 2 months.  Now a couple of Korean media outlets has already confirmed 500,000 album sales.  I know some people think it’s unfair that DBSK has different versions to their album.  It’s called “marketing strategy.”  No wonder LSM won “Best Producer” of the year!  That man really knows how to rake in the dough.  If YG also releases different versions of Big Bang’s albums, VIPs will buy it and the numbers will probably be much higher.  Big Bang is still young and there’s always next year for them.  I was hoping Big Bang will come to GDA because I wanted them to win the Digital Daesang for “Haru Haru” but they did not show up.

I’m surprised that Hyori didn’t win any award from GDA.  She was very popular, but I guess her album sales numbers were pretty low.  She has so many fans so I don’t understand why her numbers are so low.

First of all I wanna say congratulations to EVERYONE who won.

I think they all deserve their awards and that it was given fairly. I can see why LSM got best producer too. His company boosts some of the biggest names in Kpop whose albums actually do very good in sells. DBSK’s sold the most albums this year so they won the Daesang since this award show focuses on full album sells and not mini albums anyway. I’m sure if Big Bang attended they would have won something, probably the digital, but we’ll never know. I’m not even a huge fan DBSK(I do like them and BB, but their not my fav boyband) but some of you people are just being rude and ridiculous by saying SM bought these awards. If your favorite artist won would you like other people to say that the only way they could win anything is if their company buys it for them? No right, and besides IMHO I don’t think that happened here and that the GDAs are the most legitimate award show. Get over it already.

oh and I agree with chubbs don’t get mad because a certain group has a bigger fanbase. Afterall it was the fans who bought their album which in turn caused them to have the most albums sold in 2008, making them the Daesung winners.

Firstly, Congratulations for my fav artist TVXQ for winning the awards…
Secondly, can all of u just stop bashing each other?? I’m sick of watching this all. I’m a fan of TVXQ (but not a cassie), but I never bash any artist especially BB. Don’t you know that in a real life they are friends? TOP and Jaejoong are best friends, Daesung is a fan of Junsu himself, TVXQ have all BB album or mini album. So why do all of u still fighting?  TVXQ and BB must be very sad to watch this.
Thirdly, please don’t say anything bad about the artists. U may say your opinion, but don’t u know if your bad opinion can affect the artists? Watch the game show in Korea “Come to play” TVXQ edition (the last part). U can see how painful TVXQ are to hear all the bad comments, they may say that they don’t care about what people say but actually it affect them physically and mentally.
Last, About not coming then no winning, how if u see LSM who didn’t come but still win, BB and others may not come because GDA have told them that they don’t win anything, who knows?
So, for all VIPS AND CASSIES, JUST BE PEACEFUL OK!
If u are cassies just stay still on TVXQ and don’t bash any other artist.
If u are vips just stay still on BB and don’t bash any other artist.

Like an article had mentioned, MKMF is definitely an internal party for the 3 big entertainment companies. Yeah it’s fair BECAUSE IT’S FUCKING RIGGED. They give the awards to the artists who the fans think deserve. MKMF was just out to please everyone, fans and artists included.

Don’t you even think it was fishy that Shinhwa WASN’T EVEN NOMINATED for MKMF? And here at Golden Disk Award, they win their rightly deserved Bonsang. Their 9th album sales was AMAZING despite the no promotion at all.

Golden Disk Award has and is still definitely one of the most prestigious and most fair award show there is. The awards given are based on STATISTICS and NOT on favouritism.

All the winners definitely got their deserved award. From DBSK to Jewelry to all the Bonsang winners and everyone else who won an award.

Don’t discredit GDA just because your favourite artist didn’t win. And quit saying Lee Soo Man bought all the awards. If you do say that, am I not wrong to say that YG totally bought the awards at MKMF?

I can’t believe people are actually questioning the credibility of the GDAs and are saying that MFMK is more fair. WTF are you people thinking. Awards besides the two Daesangs are decided and told to the recipients before hand. How else would they be prepared for their performances and such since each award recipient gets to perform at the show. Clearly, the artists that did not show up knew that weren’t going to win which is probably pretty much the reason why they don’t show up in the first place. I think it’s a shame. I do understand that since they’re not going to win anything they might as well do something else more productive than go to the show, but seriously it shouldn’t be all about winning/losing, but rather to celebrate the music industry and the artists for their achievements that year. It would’ve been nice to see not only the artists that won show up. Maybe that’s why we see so many artists show up to MKMF despite it’s sketchy nature. Artists don’t know so they show up just incase they do win or whatever. On another note, please stop with the SM bought the awards bullshit. Apparently a lot of you don’t know the credibility of the GDAs it seems. All the awards that night were justified.

@trude: even if BB did do multiple versions of actual albums…they would still not get the album of the year. VIPs in general prefer to buy digitally as opposed to Cass who does the old school physical album copies. And thats where they fall into two different generations. The newer digital and the older physical album. multiple versions for BB equals high ass digital sales which means they would win the digital daesang….much like they should have this year. unfortunately they didn’t win any bonsangs which put them out of the running. but what can you do? *shrug*

Being voted the best or have more albums sales doesn’t make you the the best. Panels are actually more fair usually as they pick based not solely on fangirl-ing. All you people complain mkmf was rigged are just angry that ur votes and albums sales accounted for much less than expected. While here it’s 80% based on sales and vote so ur fangirling actually has more influence. Plus how can u say MKMF is rigged? The judges have their opinions just like u dumb fans have yours, thats not called rigging. In MKMF judges and other entertainers picked BB, but where statistics rules u guys got to chose DBSK as the winner. So i see no “rigging” or a problem with any of these results. Congratz to the winners but it’s still weird that BB didn’t win anything as they dominate the digital sales chart (even more than TVXQ). Also people seems to forget they have the second largest albums sales this year after TVXQ and the most overall sales this year. Plus i think VIP’s should be ranked after cassie as the most dedicated fan group in Korea. So it’s kinda strange they got nothing.

^No, the second best selling album was NOT BB it was Seo Tai Ji.

As for digital sales, don’t forget that Jewelry dominated quite a bit with their sales as well, so their digital daesang was probably legit.

I’m flabbergasted by the way you compare MKMF and GDA. Judging is based on OPINIONS and maybe even sucking up to certain music companies (hence the daesangs were equally given out to YG, JYP and SM respectively).
GDA is indeed FAIRER because it’s based on sales. IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A MUSIC AWARD BASED ON MUSIC QUALITY BECAUSE THIS IS OBJECTIVE. Good music to one person may be bad music for another. Therefore, to count sales is the fairest thing because the amount of sales translates to how many people appreciate your music. Stop using the fanbase excuse. A group has more fans because more people like their music, that’s fair enough for ANY artist.

i’m not saying a awards based simply on sales is any less important than ones judged by a panel. I’m saying each has it flaws and it’s dumb to say this group’s award is any less than another b/c one is decided between a panel of experts while the other was based on numbers. Btw fanbase isn’t an excuse, it a factor since fanbase affects sales and voting.
Also if u didn’t know almost all major awards in the united states are panel based, not popularity/sales based. What ur saying is that the our awards should be solely be based on how much something sells. Then y don’t we just give oscars out to the highest grossing film, or best album to the highest selling albums?
Plus u don’t noe how people in the mkmf decided ur just assuming something is fishy there, same way as dumb VIPs are assuming something is wrong here. MKMF uses poll.
Fans are allowed to vote once in a day so it’s like not fair to those who really deserve the awards.
The awards presented in GDA are based on their archivement in the music industry. I basicly thinks that those who receive the awards yesterday deserve it. They work hard for it.
GDA are equal to Korea Grammy Awards.
So its fair and square.

@blherrfcy_23 your wrong. Golden disk is based 60% on sales 20% on voting and 20% on judge’s evaluation. So it’s mostly based on how much u sell. For the mkmf i’m not sure of the number but sales comprise a much smaller % and the judges have more power. Iunno y GDA are compared to the grammy awards, maybe in prestige (although the lack of attendees makes me question it), since the Grammys are primary decided by judges and public opinion don’t that much.

just so people get enlightened as to why some artists didn’t attend read BPKozier’s comments and you’ll know how different MKMF works as GDA..
