Teddy Rejects Lady Gaga

It was made known that Teddy, the leader of YG Entertainment's hip hop group 1TYM, was recently asked to work with American pop star Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga is receiving a massive amount of popularity and fame for her hit songs "Just Dance" and "Poker Face."

Yang Hyun Suk, the CEO / founder of YG Entertainment, revealed to Money Today Star News that "A few months ago, we met with the president of Interscope (Lady Gaga's company), Jimmy Iovine," and "after listening to the songs that Teddy produced, Jimmy Iovine asked him if he wanted to produce a song for Lady Gaga." However, Teddy declined his offer.

Interscope Records, which is famous for its artists Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Limp Bizkit, as well as many others, is currently the largest music entertainment company. Because of its high standards and reputation, many netizens are poking their eyes out at Teddy's arguably dim-witted decision. But hey, although it seems like Teddy lost a grand opportunity, as the company probably won't ask him again, maybe the master mind knows what he's doing. Or maybe he just thought Lady Gaga isn't worthy enough for his skills, and if that's the case, he ain't alone.

Big man Yang Hyun Suk continued, "However because he was busy preparing for 2NE1's debut album, Teddy had no choice but to reject the offer to work with Lady Gaga," and that "because Teddy stayed focused with 2NE1 remaining as his center of attention, we were able to see good results."

In the past, Teddy had produced various hit songs, such as Taeyang's "Only Look at Me", Uhm Jung Hwa's "Disco", Big Bang's "Sunset Glow", and of course the song that took over #1 spots on every chart, "Lollipop." This time, he produced 2NE1's debut song "Fire" which is also booming on the charts.

Thanks to mirima2244 and mia for the tips!

Lady Gaga is quality?

On what planet?

xyiseul's avatar

damn, poor lgg but teddy really must be something

Even if he produced some music for Lady Gaga, it doesn’t guarantee success for him.
His name probably would’ve been ignored anyway.
So it’s all about his choice. smile

Samaher's avatar

love how he stayed true to YG Family and Teddy is an awesome producer and it was he choice not to produce for Lady Gaga

why should he be criticised for rejecting someone he may or may not like x]

iLYM0j0's avatar

Hmmm… Wonder if hes going to regret it??
He should have made some time for her
it must have been hella serious if he
was to turn her down. Good luck to
Gaga, I love her.

Good choice. I don’t like Lady Gaga.

WTFF he rejected Lady GaGa to work for the shitty 2NE1

Just thought that was a bad move with so many Korean artists who want to have in’s into the American market I hope he kept the door open with Interscope especially for the future. I am sure YG would like to have some type of partnership or communication going who knows what will happen.

Love Lady Gaga’s music and sound. YG and JYP are the innovators right now in K-POP.

teddy ROCKS!
i luv this dude and all those songs listed above!
it’s ok if he declined it the lady gaga thing…don’t really even like her much..lol…
it’s not like people pay any attention to who wrote or compose the music here in america…
only fewer people do that….
so teddy’s decision ain’t bad at all…
he still got time to make it big as a producer….
he got time and he’s gonna spend it wise!..^^

However, Lady GaGa would have had more Moola and fame.

Teddy produces great music, and although he may have missed an opportunity to get more recognized, I’m glad he knows where his loyalties lay.

Eltoshen's avatar

Lady GaGa is awesome.

If you don’t like her music, that’s cool.  No need to say that she isn’t talented.

superrtard's avatar

Teddy is the man.
I’m somewhat dissapointed that he rejected the offer and in a sense it is “dim-witted” but whatever he thinks is right.

I think they may ask him again after some time. Iovine seems really interested in YG (CL particularly. He’s coming to meet her soon).

It would have been great if se7en was signed with them instead.

I’m not a big fan of Lady Gaga but mannnn even though we as consumers don’t care about composers and producers all that much, it might have opened up a couple of doors for him & maybe the rest of YGent in the industry. Oh wellllll. Maybe this just means he’s going to focus on 1TYM soon!? >wishes really really hard<

~Loco_Roco~'s avatar

That was really cool of Teddy (loyalty yey~ lol)
But he must have some hot shizz we haven’t heard yet to get an offer like that O_O

alan_3un's avatar

honestly… eff lady gaga i don’t see whats so good about her

xVANY's avatar

Lol, i actually think that Teddy made good choice. not because i don’t like Lady Gaga. :O
He’s an awesome producer. but i guess it was his choice to not work with Lady Gaga, but 2NE1. smile

Jaz*'s avatar

He is a great producer and rapper and i hope he wont regret it ^^

Bothering_One's avatar

haha, dang….

jeehyuni's avatar

i’m kinda glad he chose to stay with 2NE1…
but then if he DID choose to work with this company, he could have won some recognitions beyond korea…. that would have been awesomeee! [= like overseas? (:

chleimel's avatar

Intense. O_o Lady Gaga is okay her songs are really catchy, and more fit for the party/dance floors I guess. But I guess Teddy was really committed to what he already started, and so declined.

charliehut's avatar

he’s the man. he made a good decision. there’s always next time/other worthy artists. lol

Awww man… I wish I could work with Lady Gaga… It’s quite an opportunity and I hope he kept the door open. It’s not every day that a foreigner is offered the chance to produce for a famous American pop star and chart topper, especially when such an offer is given by the president of Interscope…

tangy's avatar

Family comes first! (yg family that is ^^)
Teddy’s so talented but I wish he would concentrate more on his solo album and 1tyms comeback album if that’s ever going to happen

He definitely could have cashed-in a lot of money if he had taken the job, but Koreans are too set on their loyalties. I reckon Teddy could become the successor of YG if YHS ever decides to retire.

YG always big mouth..
bcoz of his big mouth GD became stress lately
someone please put sock to his mouth
the offer were given to Teddy not him
no need YG to mention unless it came out from Teddy himself
I don’t like him

Hoshi-hoshi's avatar

HAHA~~ If he do this , it’s perhaps because he had a good reason no?
And work for US artists doesn’t mean “success” for him ! So even if he reject the offer now, I think he will definitely have others one, because he got a real Talent!!

naba's avatar

hmm i still would have used lady ga ga tho . just because she is popular other than that her songs SUCK YET they stick in my freaking head !!! like poker face !!

Kame-chan's avatar

lolz! I don’t like that lady…anyway!
:3 2NE1 FTW!!! and well as Teddy<3
he’s kickass.

KawaiiKingdom's avatar

awww well good for him then. (:
i’m glad he stuck with the girls. besides, if they really want him, they’ll be back.
<33

muggle87's avatar

in a business sense i feel that wasnt a good choice, if you want to put your foot in america music industry you got to start somewhere, if that was his goal but if its not then whatever i guess. Lady Gaga is right now one of the hottest singer in the US (like her or hate her) doesnt change the fact she is A lister right now.

Dont get me wrong, love that he was loyal to the YG but still he could have manage some kind deal, but then again we dont really know the whole story so maybe he really has his reason to reject the offer. Lets hope he doesnt regert later on.

Well, I don’t think this was the best idea.  Hopefully he kept the door open at any rate, because Interscope is serious business.

I respect his decision, but I disagree with it.  I sort of see why he did it, though…he could have at least said something to the effect of, “Not right now, but soon.”

I like Gaga, don’t love her, but she can be very fun and funny.

cimberleigh12's avatar

hmm. good choice.. i wouldnt listen to lady gaga music afterall.. tho she’s good, i like korean music better than american..

MOARStrawberry's avatar

People, it’s okay to like Korean and American pop.  Anyone who says otherwise is crazy.  Despite American pop’s tendencies to become stagnant or hypersexual, there’s always the fun, thrilling stuff that kpop is made of as well.
