i think the fact that they are asian makes no difference. As long as they can speak english fluently and bring the right stuff up. They could hit the charts.
their songs are being played but "SOME" arent making a big impact. like those songs u hear on the radio a couple of times...but u dont kno the name and who its by. i understand that THEY ARE being played tho.....

Boa: shes debuted…...still havent seen her on tv (heard it was played in clubs alot tho). asked my friends about her…yea no one knows who she is. besides its already been a while since she realeased her album and if we still havent heard much yet i doubt we will.well she was in people magazineg BUT HONESTLY HOW MANY TEENS READ THAT AND GO..."hmm shes a breakthrough artist...imma go buy her stuff"
WG: language is an issue.and if they sing with wierd pronounciations they will be mocked. jyp needs to stop with the whole retro shit and burn those wigs hes making them wear bc its makeing them look like a joke. i want them do debut successfully but so far thier songs arent really like the american type (but i do love them)…plus girl groups here have a sexy image..thats how they get noticed. ppl will laugh if they show up with some kind of Tell Me dance.
i think they need more exposure to what american music is like. boa has that exposure its just that…..shes not getting ppls attention. and they need to be on like actual shows.i want them do well so bad but....yea they wont unless they take drastic measures. they should a brought a boy group...that actually has balls and werent so freaking feminine, can dance *like 2pm kind of dance not dbsk kinda dance* bc it girls will notice thier looks bc thats how shallow we are

* I guess that airplayes for the songs vary on where you live...if its an asian rich place like hawaii most likely they would play the songs more there rather than somewhere over here in michigan
* I'm not saying absolutely NO ONE has heard of them! just saying that not enough people do.

asian artists can't break through because they're not bringing anything new. who the fuck cares if boa is the asian britney spears? america already has the original one, and honestly? boa's overrated. sure, she's cute and she dances very well, but her voice is nothing compared even to the amateurs america has (a la american idol or america's got talent). as for the other artists you've listed... well... they're mediocre. and i'm being nice. for them, the best case scenario is that they'll be a one-hit wonder. then fade from the public eye. then be completely humiliated by gaining weight and having tmz.com take a shot of their stomach fat. or they could be good little asians and stay in their little asian bubble. or something, i dunno. |

I just think the labels arent trying hard enough to promote! These artist should be getting on shows easy and get their single on Radio ASAP (BoA) As well as maybe getting Big Guest appearances on a single to help radio play. I hope one of them do it right im rooting for BoA the most i was never a fan till her english cd.

I didnt read any of the jibberish that was posted above me so I'll write the main reason why Asians can't break out through the music scene just yet;
Asians are either: 1. super genius nerds that LOVE math/science and have no chance with women since we have little dicks 2. stick skinny gangstas with baggy pants, long hair bangs, a tattoo with a tiger or dragon, and a riced out honda... still with tiny dicks. 3. hard working grocery/dry cleaning/nail salon business owners that have come from their native countries 20 years ago and STILL can't speak english... and still have tiny dicks. 4. Martial Artist. Asians lack sex appeal. Asians still have tons of stereotypes to break through. BoA? Se7en? Wonder girls? Crown J? All talented people. None of em' speak a word of English. Sorry. (and the crap coming out of Crown J's mouth is not considered English to me kthx). From my observation it's going to take YEARS before any Asian artist is going to be successful in the US industry. The artists mentioned above are paving that road, but it's going to take someone a lot more special to make that success a reality. |

It's not that asians don't have talent, they are just slowly rising. We have to wait! They can't just come to the states and expect to be number one. They have to go through hardship, and slowly win the hearts of peoples hearts.
Ohs, and does anybody realizes that slowly there are more asians in movies, and such? LOLS. |

utada is a slight household name. anyone who has played kingdom hearts (which is ALOT of people) know who she is, thus they have to tell their friends about her. They end up liking her soooo much that they research her. Trust me i know this. I always loved the kingdom heart songs and when i foudn out who sung it i did my research. p.s. if the radio is playing your song non-stop that means that you are breaking through because it means you have fans who keep wanting to hear it. its not a huge breakthrough but its something |

as long as they still have american idol, there would be no room for asian artists.. compare rain, se7en, and BoA to Adam Lambert.. i would go for Adam Lambert's music anytime.. plus, language is a problem for asian artists.. they really need to work on their pronunciation.. they would have to be very very lucky to be able to break through.. just my opinion though.. *GREEN DAY FAN* :) (support 21st century breakdown) |

I don't care if you have the catchiest song, if your English sucks, no one will care xD; Utada has the upper-hand because she was BORN here, and knows English fluently She'll probably never become a "household" name like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake etc etc But few do, and the fact she's being played daily on radio stations and attracting some kind of attention is a big deal. I love kpop and the pop-culture, but I doubt they have what it takes to make it here in the States. We're too fast-paced, constantly changing what's "in or out" Plus, most of them are too conservative to really make a "breakthrough" in American pop-culture. 'cause the only reason we know of that Tequila chick, is because she's a whore. I doubt any Korean singers are willing to go that far xD; [and I'm hoping they never do] lol |
