Lately, as i am sure a lot of you have noticed, AllKpop started to have this special connection with Se7en (even though all Rain has ever got was bunch of dirt, i wonder why? what did he do to ya?...) In the list of categories, such as K-Pop, Rumor, Drama, General, we now can see "SE7EN EXCLUSIVE".
Myself personally, i think Se7en is good. I'm not a crazy fan (and again, we all know what that means. like in the fanmade videos of concerts - i wonder how can those crazy girls hear what the celebrity sings when they are too busy screaming like someone is killing them lol). Anyway! I actually liked "Passion", "TwoStep", "I Wanna" and "BabyU" quiet a bit ;)
He is a Huge Shot in Korea, all of the Asia...
but America is another story, a completely different world (and it does not mean it is a good difference, but all of you are aware)
The fact is: Americans have a stereotype for everyone and everything
and to be honest, every Asian star will always only be just Asian to them, leaving the "Star" part out. No matter how hot and sexy the person is
asian face will still be cute (which i personally love ;P)
but let's finally face it:
look at the face of 50Cent, and look at Se7en's face

no matter how i look at it, from which side-
his features still make up a puppy face aawwwwwww...
he has talent, his moves are awesome, he has good vocals, and looks very (i mean VERY! good)...
but to make a long story short
it is just toooo bad that Americans have this thing about anyone who is not like them
(also i am not talking about all of them,
otherwise he wouldn't even have a chance to record a song)

I don't think Se7en or BoA has a chance at breaking through into the US market.
The best bet of an Asian breaking through would be Utada Hikaru. She has a few advantages over both Se7en and BoA. She can speak English fluently, she already tried to debut in the US, she's signed with Island Def Jam, and her single is kick ass. She has the most potential. |

to be quite honest, no.
some american listeners are close minded. and some underestimate the talents of ethnic groups. seven is a talented guy but i can't think of him as an american artist D: his english is not that great yet but i can definitely see some improvements. as of now, my answer is gonna be no. but who knows? maybe he'll turn that around. i wish him the best. MANNN i have been calling the radio staions in my area and
requesting his song but some of them wont play it. But two of the stations i did played it. XD & I have seen the mv on MTV lik twice. I really hope that he makes it. I think he will. Iam optamistic~! |

I dunno if he can make it, but he seems to have a better chance than BoA. And to be honest, some people are using the race card as the reason that their singles aren't played a lot, but both of their debut singles are weak. Even if they weren't Asian, I doubt they'd get a lot of popularity. They also seem to be ditching their previous styles for a more "American" style. Foreign artists who make it in America are known for bringing their own style, but just twisting it a bit for the American audience. So both Se7en and BoA need to keep their own personal styles and tweak it a bit, not just ditch it. I'm rooting for se7en though. If he doesn't get success this album, he can always make another. I like se7en , BoA, and Rain.. but i personally think that they dont stand a chance in the music industry in America.. they would do much much better in Korea! so please stay in Korea.. I enjoy their Korean songs but not much of their English songs.. that's just my personal opinion :)

artists these days, even the american ones, need major backin from someone. I mean, seven's got some backing from what i can see but he needs even greater backing to overcome the asian stereotype. That asian stereotype is scary.... look what happened to Jin....he was the closest there ever was for a breakthrough asian artist in the mainstream music scene and he's just...nowhere to be seen...
options: 1. Use the autotuner and go Kanye. 2. Make more stylistic R&B songs like Ne-Yo, Jamie Foxx, or *JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE*. 3. Feature some balla ass artists on the songs such as Kanye, Lil' Wayne, Jay-Z, TI, and etc etc. Anyone that all the fratty ass white dudes think are cool. I starred Justin Timberlake cause that man is incredible. He had to break the NSync stereotype of king of poppiness and move into a more hiphop-ish genre....damn props. That's what you get when you backed by Timbaland. SEVEN! GO GET TIMBALAND! ^ LoL success manual right there. |
