The main plot of “I Am Sam" is about a coy and incompetent teacher, Mr. Jang (Yang Dong Gun), who is somehow forced to be a live-in tutor for, Yoon Eun Byul (Park Min Young), the only daughter of a prestigious and dangerous mob leader Yoo Jae (Park Joon Gyu). Eun Byul’s personality is quite fierce but she’s not that smart and is struggling to graduate high school. Eun Byul becomes a new student of Class 3-8 at Myung Moon High where Mr. Jang currently teaches and as time passes, the incompetent Mr. Jang and the brainless Eun Byul begin to develop feelings for eachother.

Yang Dong Gun as Mr. Jang

Yang Dong Gun plays the role of an incompetent teacher perfectly. He just amazes me on how he uses his facial expressions to portray his romantic emotions but in a comical kind of way. You can’t help but be drawn in and become one with his entertaining character.

Park Min Young as Yoon Eun Byul

To be honest, I thought Park Min Young’s character was very annoying, she plays a very spoiled and bratty girl. I lost count on how many times she changed into different outfits and changed her hairstyle. I have to admit though, the chemistry between her and Mr. Jang was pretty good and she is quite adorable looking.

Son Tae Young as Shin So Yi

So Yi is a very passive character, so much that I feel this character is just there. She did cause some controversy, but over-all this character was very boring. So Yi tries very hard to please Mr. Jang throughout the entire drama, but in the end it was useless. Although So Yi is very unfortunate, her luck does change at the end of the drama - You’ll have to watch to find out why ;D

T.O.P as Chae Musin

T.O.P (member of K-Pop group Big Bang) was pretty much the main reason why I wanted to watch this drama. Although I was a little disappointed that he didn’t have that many scenes and he didn’t talk much, his character was very cool, nonetheless. He was very mysterious, yet striking. The drama portrays him as being very touch and able to beat up anyone that comes his way (or tries to at least haha). I believe this is T.O.P.’s first actual drama (if you don’t count the mini Big Bang drama in the show Idol World), and he did a fantastic job, he was a perfect fit for the role.

Homeroom 8 of Myung Moon High

Mr. Jang (Yang Dong Gun) is the homeroom teacher of the troublesome class in Myung Moon High in which he uses his unique teaching methods in order to gain the trust of his students. There are many distinct and interesting characters in Homeroom 8 and you can’t help but feel sentimental as you watch the students’ bond throughout the drama.

I believe KBS cut out some scenes so it made it quite confusing at certain points, other than that, I think “I Am Sam” deserves 4 stars out of 5. “I Am Sam" portrayed the stereotypical conflicts between teachers and high school students very well and wrapped it all up with sarcastic and witty moments that will make you chuckle out loud. I still feel a bit awkward on the whole student-teacher relationship between Eun Byul and Mr. Jang - he’s so much older than her - It just creeped me out a little! Regardless, the pace of the drama was very good and there were very few dull moments, overall I highly recommend this drama!
