    APOP - American Pop

Before people come in this shit and spew random bullshit hear me out.

BTS and Blackpink's music feels so westernized to me, I do enjoy their music but I feel it drives a more westernized appeal catered away from the korean audience and into the int'l fanbase.

Its definitely not a bad thing but I feel that their music is just american pop but sang in korean. I want to believe that american pop + korean language = kpop but I feel that I came to kpop to listen to another music universe that doesnt feel like its shitty mainstream, american pop tunes in the background but they're just singing in korean.

When I take for example EXO monster I listen to that song and I generally feel like "wow this is good stuff, its definitely unique and doesn't bring that shitty edm, trap, american pop beats, nor does it just repeat the same word 50 times throughout a song while on a repeating trap music beat".

If you get my JIST you'll understand this post but if you don't its fine lmao.
I'm gonna take a hunch here and say that alot of you guys who enjoy BTS/bp also enjoy chainsmokers? [It's weird cause I like their new song with coldplay..]

I love that westernized shit tbh. BlackTS in your damn area:yesr:
you can just stick to EXO, the 'unadulterated' Asian artists. No need to whine 24/7 about these other 'American wannabes'.

ur right. i guess this is where opinions come in because other than agreeing with u on how it seems more westernized, i don't understand how u can generalize the WHOLE american pop genre as just 'mainstream'. in general, i see many kpop fans shit on american pop to praise their biases 'uniqueness' but how u gon generalize a whole genre and label it mainstream? i know so many american pop songs that are extremely good but are not played in the radio. don't know where u been listening kid

I personally don't think that it is westernized but that's probably because I stay away from Western music .

I'm sorry but that's a majority of K-Pop song. "Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry...", "Gee, gee, gee, gee, baby, baby. Gee, gee, gee, gee, baby, baby", "Ring ding dong, Ring ding dong, Ring diggi ding diggi, Ding ding ding".

I wonder when some kpop fans will finally get off their high horse and admit that all kpop groups are inspired in some way or another by western music.
Stop acting like your bias group is into korean folk music or something.

I'm confused as to how this is an opinion. It's literally fact, or at least it is in BTS's case - Rap Mon has said outright that he (and the other producers, too, I think) try to listen to a lot of western music in order to globalize their sound.

Pop is pop is pop. Kpop and Apop are pretty much the same these days; most Kpop songs from the past few years could easily pass as Apop if sung in English, and vice versa.

But that's what it is. That's what it's always supposed to have been, albeit they were ten years slow on the trends for a while there. I'm sorry if you miss the good old days when Kpop was a giant autotuned cringefest, but it's always been pop music, and it's always been modelled off of the American music scene. There aren't that many huge differences when it truly comes down to it, so if you're looking for a different universe, you might as well just change genres instead of countries.

And for the record, I hate The Chainsmokers.

Well Kpop music (as well as K-RnB and K-Hip hop) are influenced by western music, so hearing some kpop songs or kpop artists that give off western vibes is expected tbh.

But it doesn't bother me when I feel the western vibes from a song or artist. As long as I enjoy the music then it's all good :)
