A man who killed a kitten and seriously injured a puppy out of anger has received his sentence for animal abuse.

According to the police report, the 48-year-old man with the surname Park tried to check into a motel in Suwon with the animals he had just purchased at a market earlier that day. When the motel said that animals are not allowed in, Park became upset and threw the puppy and kitten on the floor. The kitten died from injuries suffered from the throw while the puppy was seriously injured.

The Suwon district court stated, "Based on the evidence submitted by the prosecution, the defendant is guilty as charged. However, the defendant admits his guilt and is repentant. He bought the animals in order to live with them, and the crime was not premeditated," explaining his sentence to pay a fine of 700,000 KRW (~$700 USD).

why didn't he just return those animals? the law doesn't seem to have any provisions on how to deal with this sort of thing. The punishment seems to be more for crimes related to unnecessary suffering of animals who are killed for consumption, like improper slaughtering methods for farm animals and the like. But this was clearly different... what that guy did was an act of pure violence in an uncontrolled manner. It's pretty obvious that guy's got some serious issues. You don't go out to buy a puppy and a kitten to live with them just for the heck of it, you do it because you're lonely.

People who kill animals, not for consumption and/or survival, have the highest tendency to kill another human being. Law makers should take this into serious consideration regarding animal abuse cases.

WTF ?!!! Who cares whether he's repetant or that the crime wasn't premeditated ! This is horrible and 700 USD isn't enough. I'm not really surprised though. After all in Korea when you rape someone you only get one year in jail so...

He's well within his own rights to take an animal to an institution (i.e. a veterinarian) to be put down, not to kill it himself when it is perfectly healthy. It is a little different in more rural areas for obvious reasons. Hitting an animal against a floor or wall, though? Rarely. Try shooting. And again, generally animals which are sick or injured are killed rather than unwanted animals. In this case, it was animal abuse. Unlike you said, this manner is obviously not a "swift and relatively painless" way to kill animals - the dog survived, after all.

Except he didn't had to kill the animals. If he had just bought them, I'm assuming they were healthy, so there was no need to kill them. And second, if he got angry that they didn't allow animals there and, instead of going to look for another motel or whatever, he threw the animals to the grown hard enought to kill one and severely injure the other, he has anger issues and needs treatment. In my opinion he shouls get worse than a fine he should get jail, but just talking without opinions, this man seems to be a danger to society

yeah.. or... you know... the law is actually meant to deal with farmers and farm animals to prevent farmers from keeping them in bad conditions and slaughtering them improperly... The farmer would get fined separately for every abused animal. This particular law is obviously not meant to deal with animals that are virtually never kept in large numbers by the same person. Therefore neither the crime nor the punishment fit the law in this case.

$700 is so little! He could be jailed for this in my country. It's disgusting how some people treat their pets as inferior and do whatever they want with them.

Omg this is just vicious, animals abuse must be taken seriously as human abuse, like what did they ever did to you?!
