A report of a high school teacher hitting his student 500 times as corporal punishment is alarming many people in Pohang, Korea. 

The Pohang Police Department stated on November 22 that they are investigating a case of a 51-year-old high school teacher beating a 17-year-old male student.

According to the police, the male student was beaten by his English teacher about 500 times with a club for failing to do his homework. The teacher is being charged for violating child protection laws. 

Using corporal punishment has been banned in Korean schools since 2012.
