On October 12 at approximately 12:30 AM KST, famous violinist Kwon Hyuk Joo was pronounced dead inside a taxi, parked outside a hotel in the Haeundae District.

The person who phoned the police was none other than the taxi driver, who picked up Kwon Hyuk Joo from a drinking outing he'd had with acquaintances. The taxi driver said, "Around the time we passed the Diamond bridge, he seemed to be asleep. When we arrived at the hotel, I tried to wake him up, but he wasn't breathing so I called 119 (emergency number)."

Kwon Hyuk Joo, who studied violin in Russia at the age of 9 after being recognized as a prodigy, was the first Korean to win 1st place at the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition in 2004. He was in Busan for an upcoming performance before his untimely death, at age 31.

Many suspect that Kwon Hyuk Joo's death was a health issue, since he was found to have updated his Instagram with a normal post less than 24 hours prior to his time of discovery.

sorry to bust some people's bubble, but the alcohol might not even be the cause. Hopefully there's an autopsy report soon. RIP :(

It's most likely to be alcohol. It's the same way Bon Scott, the original lead singer of ACDC, died. He was drinking a lot the night before and passed out and fell asleep in a car, only to be found dead the next day.

nah Bon SCott choked on his vomit due to after effects of alcohol. This guy seemed to have only passed out, lets just wait for the autopsy tho

k_kid NORM Thursday, October 13, 2016

Maybe that's what happened to this guy as well. It's common for people who pass out from drinking to choke on their vomit.

oh man that is really sad and unfortunate, condolences to his family, may he rest in peace

AmberJazzy Wednesday, October 12, 2016

My mum thinks someone might have poisoned him

You have to wonder if the alcohol wasn't mixed with some other drug. Maybe a prescription medication.

El_Martin Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Maybe something similar to what happened to Hendrix back in 1970. Fell asleep while fucked up on alcohol, threw up in his mouth and inhaled it. My condolences are with his family.
