The Incheon District Court announced on May 31 that they have decided on a penalty for a former principal of a middle school for habitually and forcefully harassing nine of his students for two years.
For harassment using his rank, the 57-year-old principal was sentenced to one and a half years in prison as well as 80 hours of a class on sexual violence. The judge stated, "Because the victims' testimonies are concrete when compared to one another and clear, it is hard to say these are everyday actions in the world of education. The nature of the offense is extremely poor and has great possibility for criticism."
From August, 2013 to July last year, the man was a principal at a middle school where he would call nine students in their second or third year, including a 14-year-old girl, and harassed them 24 times. He even called over a female student who only came for baking classes during the students' vacation period to his office, where he told her, "You're pretty," stroked her face, and kissed her forehead and lips. His harassment became known after one student posted on Facebook, "The principal touches the students' behinds."
One parent made a complaint, resulting in an ineffective audit, but at the same time, the 14-year-old girl told her parents the truth. Her parents reported this to the police, putting him under investigation, and the results of the investigation was that he harassed not only this girl but eight others for a total of nine.
