Man drives SUV into sea after girlfriend tells him that she wants to break up

Buzz
On June 28, Ulsan's maritime coast guard submitted an arrest warrant for a 49-year-old man charged with the attempted murder of his girlfriend.

The man is suspected of attempting to murder his 44-year-old girlfriend on June 24 by driving the SUV they were both riding in into a fishing port located in Busan's Gijang County.

Subsequent plunging the SUV into the port, the man made his escape through the open window of the driver's seat. Thankfully, the woman's life was spared after being rescued by an emergency medical team but she is currently unconscious.

The man's blood alcohol level is estimated to be around 0.09% at the time immediately following the accident, leading authorities to initially believe that the whole incident was purely an accident. However, after reviewing the footage of the SUV's dashcam, Ulsan's coast guard found that the man had intentionally driven the vehicle into the sea.

According to the report, through the dash cam footage, you can hear the man respond angrily, "Are you saying you'd rather live alone," when the woman told him to drop her off if he was going to drive under the influence. The man was then heard letting out a stream of expletives and flooring the accelerator pedal.

Investigations into the case found that the man and woman had gotten into a verbal argument after the woman relayed her intent to break off their relationship. Police believe that the man only wanted to scare the woman into changing her mind by pretending to drive into the sea; however, when the woman showed no signs of wanting to get back with him, the man, unable to control his rage, actually drove the car into the port.

A police officer stated, "The man denied his crime but he eventually confessed when we interrogated him using all the evidence we had gathered."
