Korean man survives an almost certain death in elevator

Buzz
SBS News recently covered a story of a middle aged man identified as Mr. Ha was nearly cut in half due to negligence of those who were in charge of an apartment complex.

On April 25 in Gyeonggido, a man was seen trying to enter an elevator on the 11th floor. In the CCTV, viewers are able to see that as the man was making a step inside, the elevator suddenly moves up, causing the man to trip forward into the elevator.

Despite the fact that the doors aren't even closed, the elevator continues to go up with the man still dangling off the elevator. Thanks to quick reflexes, the man pushes off the doors and jumps off which most likely saved his life.

An SBS reporter interviewed the man in question, who commented, "It's a relief I fell onto the floor, but if it were a child or an elderly person they'd probably have plunged down...  I felt it was dangerous.

According to the report, the accident could have been prevented if the apartment complex had installed a sensor on the door that signals a break to the pulley if it detects a body.

Meanwhile, a law was created back in 2000 where all elevators were required to have this safety apparatus. However, the elevator in the apartment complex was installed back in 1999, just one year before the law had passed.
