Man purposely throws self into traffic to win his ex-girlfriend back

Buzz
Love makes you do crazy things, and so does desperation. On March 25, it was revealed that a 22-year-old Shim purposely threw himself at an oncoming taxi in order to get his ex-girlfriend's attention.

The incident occurred back in September 2014 in the Gangnam district of Seoul. A taxi driver was traveling at 60 km/h (approx. 37 mph) when Shim ran into his car. The moment can be seen in the clip above at the 0:20 mark.

Dang, that looks painful. What ensued sounds a lot more painful for the taxi driver, though, as Shim demanded the driver pay for his hospitalization fee of 4.7 million won (approx. $4,200 USD). According to the driver, Shim also ruined his clean record of 23 years. At the 0:40 mark in the clip above, he states, "For 23 years, I had a clean record and was thinking of getting my own cab; did this person have to ruin my life?

Police eventually realized that it wasn't the taxi driver who was at fault but Shim. Reportedly, because they thought something was strange about the blackbox recording of the accident, police ran a PC simulation of the event and found that it was likely that Shim caused the accident himself. Although Shim suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his knee joint, police believe that if Shim had been struck by the taxi itself, he would have likely suffered a bone fracture.

In the end, Shim admitted to staging the accident as he told police, "I believed that if I got into a car accident and was hospitalized, my girlfriend would sympathize with me and come back to me." Er....

Sorry bro, but this ain't no K-Drama. Ex-girlfriends don't work like that.
