Back in July, comedian Seo Se Won shocked the nation when a CCTV clip of him dragging his wife by her feet into an elevator was revealed (footage can be seen above). Shortly after the incident went public, his wife Seo Jung Hee filed for a divorce. Now, many months later on November 20, Seo Se Won formally apologized for his actions, announced his divorce, and revealed that Seo Jung Hee agreed to drop the assault charges.

Seo Se Won was charged not only for the elevator assault, but for also taking Seo Jung Hee to the basement of their home and choking her afterwards. In September, the court even extended a temporary order of protection for Seo Jung Hee, believing her to be at risk of danger.

On November 20, Seo Se Won spoke at the Seoul Central District Court, saying, "Back then I did not think this was a huge assault, but now I am deeply reflecting and repenting the issue." He continued, "However, the accusation that I dragged her to an empty place and choked her is not the truth." He explained, "I only wanted my wife to stand up from her seat and I stopped there; I didn't choke her."

Seo Se Won continued to express his regret, saying, "During that time a lot of things happened, but I didn't open my mouth because I blamed myself for not properly leading my family and for my lack of virtues." He stated, "To my wife, family, and brothers and sisters, I am ashamed."

Seo Se Won's legal representative also revealed that the couple had finalized their divorce recently, saying, "[Seo Se Won] has notified me that he and the victim (Seo Jung Hee) divorced last month on the 12th and that they have come to an agreement regarding the division of their assets."

The legal representative continued, "There were quite a lot of things that happened following [the elevator] incident." He added, "They will be discussing arrangements until the end of this month. Because the settlement money is reasonable, we have yet to fulfill [the arrangements]." He concluded with, "Part of the agreement is to withdraw the charge," indicating that Seo Jung Hee would no longer be charging Seo Se Won for the elevator assault.
