Daum Kakao to introduce new mapping feature in order to help reduce the number of stray cats

Daum Kakao--the newly merged company of Daum and KakaoTalk--has announced that it will be introducing a new mapping feature in order to combat Seoul's ongoing problem of stray cats.

Currently there are over 250,000 stray cats roaming around in Seoul. In order to solve this growing problem, a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program was put in place back in 2008. Considered to be a better alternative to simply euthanizing strays, the TNR program aims to humanely trap, neuter, and return the stray cats to their original location so as to reduce their numbers in a safe way. Thus far, the TNR program has been able to neuter around 4,000 to 6,000 cats annually, preventing the death of thousands of strays.

Daum Kakao's mapping feature will be available to TNR volunteers, animal rights organizations, and interested citizens to mark the location of any stray cat. This feature will help the TNR program to easily discover and neuter more cats.

Daum Kakao plans on launching this feature on its website. If the feature becomes popular enough, Daum Kakao has announced that they may develop an app for it.
