Directed by Park Chan Wook (Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance), “Thirst” depicts an unorthodox romance and questions the nature of relationships and fidelity, as it follows the tangled web created by Sang Hyun (Song Kang Ho) and Tae Ju (Kim Ok Bin). Sang Hyun is a devoted priest who volunteers to be part of medical experiment and gets a blood transfusion. The experiment fails and turns him into a vampire; physical and psychological changes lead to a love affair with Tae Ju, a wife of his childhood friend who is trapped in a mundane life. Tae Ju irrevocably falls in love with Sang Hyun and suggests to murder her husband, leading Sang Hyun into a deeper despair and depravity.

The fact that Kim Ok Bin got such a privilege to work with Park Chan Wook —one of the most acclaimed film directors in Korea— already gives her enough attention and spotlight. The only question now is if she can channel her X-Men fame into her acting career this time to prove that she can carry on a movie. For once, I would like to see this actress hold the screen, not just decorate it.

Despite unfortunate car accidents and pulling all-nighters for filming Boys over Flowers, she has been very passionate about writing this book according to a source close to the actress. However, the plot has a potential to sound like a clichéd predicament even though her attempt to branch out her talent is noteworthy. I would love to find out if the actress will brilliantly keep the audience in protagonist’s head that is filled with doubts about love or is it going to be another celebrity’s lame story book with a bunch of pictures?

“I just feel bad for my staff and team, because they are not getting what they deserve for their hard work. I wish we can bring closure to this issue quickly, but we might face a lawsuit against the concert producers. It’s been very frustrating and stressful.” said Lee Hyori during the interview.

The concert production claims that they have been facing “financial difficulty” despite her sold-out concerts. This film has an interesting setup: a movie within a movie. The exploration of the movie making process from two men. One man is an actor named Jang Soo Ta (Kwang Ji-Hwan), a real street fighter with an anger problem. The other is Lee Kang Pae (So Ji-Sub) who thinks acting is just faking things but agrees to shoot a movie under one condition: they fight like real men for the action scenes. There’s the usual subplots of gangsters, girlfriends, etc., but I won’t go into much detail. So if you watch it, be prepared to spend some time getting into this film and finding out who’s going to be the winner of this bloody battle of no lame stunts or graphics.
