It has been 15 years since Yoo Seung Joon was banned from Korea.

On January 19, a second hearing was held in Los Angeles for the singer's visa issuance cancellation suit.  Yoo Seung Jun's legal representative presented a video message of the singer's declaration.

A representative of Yoo Seung Jun stated, "Yoo Seung Jun claimed, 'I really want my voice to be heard', and prepared a 15-minute video clip."  It has been reported that the footage contained a message directly from the singer expressing his thoughts and current conditions since his prohibition from entering his homeland, Korea.

Giving up his Korean citizenship and obtaining a U.S. citizenship in order to be exempt from serving in the mandatory Korean military service, the singer received much criticism for his actions back in 2002, leading to a huge plunge in his music career as it was at its peak coming from the 90s.  As a result, he was forced to leave Korea and has been banned from the country ever since.

Unless every other person (like chaebol princes and politicians' kids) who has done the same as this guy is similarly banned for all eternity, then at least from a legal standpoint, the ban is indefensible. However justified the Korean government's position may be, in a society that values the rule of law and fair application of justice, punishing one individual differently than everyone else simply because he was a celebrity, is wrong. This guy should be treated like any other draft dodger is.

No no no.. My friends looked up to this guy when were growing up.. Like being a good citizen who's in love with his country. He paraded in television, in his appearances how he love Korea and how he'll enlist. But just a month before enlistment, he shoved that away and swear his loyalty to the US.  I might've been easy on him a little if he did this while he's still pretty active in China.. but he did not. And he did all these begging too after he is over the age of conscription - meaning he can't serve in the army anymore.

And the Daesang goes to.......Like seriously, dude. Stop being an embarrassment to your children. Accept the fact that your action has consequences and move on.

Just let him back into Korea so he can see his family again! It's just sad and makes me angry how nobody is doing anything for this poor guy! It's been 15 years now, remove his ban so he can go on with his life!

his family is all in the US with him... part of the reason why people are so annoyed is that apparently, before he jumped ship, he was the ambassador for enlisting or something like that, so to be the one to give up citizenship just to avoid enlisting...

*sarcastic mode on* Awwwww he's really sorry! *sarcastic mode off* Now if only we would believe you. You dodged military, boasted about it and now you're paying the price you're sorry? Sorry bud, too little, too late. Enjoy your life in the States, many people do. Stop thinking about what cannot be and focus on what can be. I hear Trump needs people to build a wall...
