Duo Akdong Musician talked about the money the earn from their music.

On January 17, the Akdong siblings appeared on SBS Power FM's 'Choi Hwa Jung's Power Time', introducing their new album saying Lee Chanhyuk wrote and composed the entire album.  DJ Choi commented, "Your album royalties must be pretty good."  Lee Chan Hyuk confessed, "It's not an amount that I can make at my age doing something else."  Hearing this, Lee Suhyun chimed, "It's not that bad."

Lee Chan Hyuk went on, "We don't see making music as work.  My dream was to enjoy singing.  I believe it is a blessing and am thankful to do something that I love and make money at the same time."

With releasing their new album on January 3, 'Winter', their title song "Last Goodbye" swept the music charts.

I suppose when you don't have to pay for a writer or composer, you get a much more decent chunk of the album earnings. Good for them. :)

Well copy rights money goes to him right,  and their albums are always doing well on charts so I'd say they make a pretty darn amount.  Can't wait til they have their own concerts

I like how he answered it~ it shows that they are getting paid well and given what is due to them. Best part is they are doing what they want to do!

I love it how they low key slay. Not over hyped or under hyped and yet successful. Fresh of breath air when you want to ditch the girl/boy group craze

Their life story is incredible and should be made into a movie. The children of poor missionary parents. Couldn't go to school because they were too poor. Had to be home schooled. Grew up in Mongolia and returned to Korea as musicians. Appeared on K-pop star 2 and exploded onto the scene. Now they are making bank.

Chanhyuk should be doing pretty well due to his composer credits with their good performance on the charts and good album and download sales.  Generally the most financially successful artists compose their own material as it boosts their earnings a lot if they aren't having to have composers take a cut and instead are taking that cut themselves.  If I recall he also had a hand in engineering their last album and won an award for that.  If he also engineered this album they either saved money not needing to pay one or perhaps got a fee for doing it.  Hopefully his military service will help him grow as a composer and lyricist and maybe allow him to do a lot of writing without the pressure of having to publish something soon.

I hope he writes some tracks for her in advance when he inlists, so she doesn't go through a period of zero income.

Well the good news was that that duet she did with Lee Hi did very well, so in addition to the possibility of her doing some solo work while he is in service, YG could quite possibly revisit that duo with an album or mini-album rather than just a single. Even if he doesn't write stuff specifically for her, I am certain she won't be sitting doing nothing for those two years as she has shown enough ability as a vocalist that composers will want to work with her or YG will want her to work composers.

they've also had a lot more exposure in shows this time around too as it's possible she will be more active in that now that she's older and has more experience. I really want more music from her and Lee Hi, I love their voices together

Yh I always hoped they'd do another song, maybe a continuation where they are over Bobby and move on to the next Winner/Ikon member 😂 or meet BlackPink & practice becoming chic 😂

a collab song with a vocal would be great, maybe someone like Junhoe who also has a strong distinctive voice
