Songs that should have been sung by other idols?

misc.
1. Cosmic Girls' 'Secret' -> Nine Muses
From the first time I heard this song, the jazzy intro and instrumental kept making me think of Nine Muses' unique style of music. I couldn't help but think how much better this song would be for a group of elegant, mature ladies with a touch of sexy sass rather than a group of young girls whose voices seem a smidge too girly for the slightly jazzy, mid-tempo sound.
2. Hyorin's 'Paradise -> HyunA
From the get-go, everything from the brassy, sexy sound to the booty-dropping choreography seemed to be screaming HyunA. Hyorin has such a great voice as a K-Pop diva, deep and husky, that it didn't seem to fit well with the more sassy, lighthearted tone of this song. I could just imagine HyunA's nasally vocals taking on this song while she twerked. I think HyunA's voice would have worked better for this type of song.
3. DIA's 'Mr. Potter' -> Red Velvet
This is a sound that Red Velvet had already experimented with through "Ice Cream Cake" - and they had done such a good job that DIA's "Mr. Potter" was relatively unknown in comparison. If Red Velvet had done this song, it may have done better with Red Velvet's signature quirky, upbeat, and girly image. The chorus does deviate from the "Ice Cream Cake" sound, but I can't help imagine Red Velvet's tough choreo, great stage presence, upbeat energy, and more as they took on this variation of a previous hit.
4. VIXX's 'The Romance is Over' -> B2ST
From the beginning instrumental to right when they start singing, everything seems heavily borrowed from B2ST's "12:30." The instrumental, the light and poignant sound, the sentimentality - everything was already done in Junhyung's beautifully composed winter track. This seems like "12:30 2.0." It just needs Yoseop's ad-libbing and a soothing rap from Junhyung, then it'd be as celebrated as "12:30." It's a beautiful release from VIXX, but it's hard to listen to without thinking of "12:30" and honestly how "12:30" is better.
5. SISTAR's 'One More Day' -> T-ara
This song is both an upbeat club banger in the instrumental and a dramatic K-drama OST in the singing parts - which is a combo often used by none other than T-ara! That's right. While listening to this, both myself and another writer raised our eyebrows because we swore this was something T-ara may have released earlier in their career a la "Day by Day." Even the beginning rap sounds like something T-ara would have thrown into one of their more dramatic releases.
6. Ga In's 'Carnival' -> IU
A lot of people were arguing when this came out, stating that Ga In was trying to be like IU with the heavy usage of red and retro theme. Not only the concept but also the sound was like IU's "The Red Shoes," making people wonder if she was trying to be the next IU. Whether or not that was her true intention, this song definitely sounds like it could be beautifully sung by IU's sweet, girlish voice - not that Ga In did a bad job with her own whispery, easy-on-the-ears sound, of course.
7. VICTON's 'I'm Fine' -> Seventeen
Even from the teasers, Plan A Entertainment's new boy group seemed to obviously be going down the route that Seventeen went - with the bright colors and fun energy and funky sound. While not a unique concept, Seventeen did such a good job with it, adding its own unique twist, that VICTON's sound seemed like something the more established group could pull off better. After all, people already expect excellent songs like this from Seventeen, don't they? And the fun dance could be made even more fun with Seventeen's expertise on stage. It would help VICTON to stand out more if they had done something that didn't scream so loudly SEVENTEEN!
8. DIA's 'On The Road' -> G-Friend
Everyone could tell starting from the teasers that DIA was trying out the image that made G-Friend such a big success. After all, they went for a producer who had created G-Friend's unique sound, right? The song, therefore, has the sound that G-Friend is known for, and people couldn't help but wonder how the song might be with G-Friend's vocals, visuals, and incomparably super tough, synchronized choreography. I mean DIA tried with the choreography, but they could just not get as in sync.
9. Black Pink's 'Playing With Fire' -> 2NE1
It comes as no surprise that a lot of Black Pink's songs actually could be, or even should have been, sung by 2NE1. They didn't change the formula much. Teddy was a hugely key part of making 2NE1's signature sound, so when 2NE1 became inactive, he just moved his music-making prowess to the new girl group without tweaking it much. This song, for example, definitely has hints of not only Park Bom but also Dara's singing styles. It's like he made the song with 2NE1 in mind but gave it to Black Pink. 2NE1 would have sounded stronger and more charismatic with this song. Black Pink makes the song a bit softer and girlier, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but just imagine a more badass version sung by 2NE1.
10. VIXX's 'The Closer' -> EXO
The super smooth, sexy sound and vibe of this song reminds me of some of EXO's songs - not really ones they promote, but the others included in their albums. The way they sing and the singing styles just made me think EXO when listening to it. I can't compare it to a specific song since EXO have so many that can sound a bit similar after a while, but I am definitely hearing some of their sound in this song. Just match it to EXO's always impressive choreography and you'd get a sexy jam from these SM boys.
11. Dia's 'Another Boy' -> Park Bom
This song did pretty well despite Dia's struggle to grab attention as a solo artist. A key reason it did grab attention is because it followed in the footsteps of Park Bom's immensely successful solo song, "You and I." It has a similar sound and her singing is similarly powerful with a hint of husky depth. If Park Bom ever considered doing a "You and I 2.0," this song would definitely be a strong contender! Dia does do a really good job, though. I love her singing this song, but can't help wonder how Park Bom would sound if this were hers.
12. EXO-CBX's 'Hey Mama!' - UP10TION / Eric Nam
UP10TION established a slightly funky sound with "Attention" - and when I was listening to "Hey Mama!" I was reminded me of the 10-member boy group. It's something that UP10TION had excelled at in their previous promotions. There's also an undeniable similarity to Eric Nam's songs, particularly "Ooh Ooh" but also "Can't Help Myself." It's the guitar riffs and falsetto, man!
