IOI members thought that 'Pick Me' would be a total failure?

IOI were one of the groups to guest on the September 2 installment of 'Sketchbook' for the show's girl group special, and the girls got brutally honest about "Pick Me," the track which had placed them on the edges of fame.

Despite its popular among the masses, "Pick Me" wasn't much of a hit among the IOI members themselves. Choi Yoo Jung confessed, "I was worried about whether the song would do well. I didn't think that the program itself would do well, either." Pinky was even more blunt, saying, "When I saw the dance video, I thought, 'We're done for,'" bringing laughter.

Well, lucky for IOI that both the song and the program did incredibly well!

Sometimes... it is not the song.. it is sometimes about who sings it. Pretty trainees dancing Pick Me Up ... it sure made my friday nights complete during PD101..

Honestly though, everyone thought Pick Me was terrible. It was so annoying but it's one of those songs that has a catchy chorus so subconsciously it's going to get stuck in your head. I remember first listening to it and being like NOPE but a few days later I was like "PICK ME PICK ME PICK ME UP!" You start liking it the more you listen to it lol

PINKY is *correct* ... that PICK ME song basically CRAP! ... BUT , it is *memorable* CRAP! ... It is so simple, that it is 'catchy' and easy to remember. Which, to me, that is somewhat the GENIUS of the song. The other factor, is the Young Women TRAINEES of PD101 TV Show are HIGHLY LIKABLE. WHO CARES if the song basically CRAP! ... What 'Sold the TV Show' to viewers, was the sincerity of the TRAINEES. It was *easy* for viewers to see their talent and motivation, and CONNECT with them.

It is like "What a GOD AWFUL SONG! ... And the TV SHOW *TRAINEES* are GREAT! ... PLAY IT AGAIN !!!" ... (Inspired by another AKP user message here).

I thought Pick Me was very monotonous during PD101. However, listening to it over and over again with those pretty trainees dancing, I changed my mind after that. ahhahah

Yes, the PICK ME song is CRAP! ... But the GENIUS of it, is that it NEVER PRETENDED to be anything else! ... ;-) ... And you could RECALL the song ... And as you said, the TRAINEES were *very* sincere in their performance of *trying* to SELL a CRAPPY SONG! ... In the end, you NEEDED to CONNECT with the TRAINEES! ... There was almost NO WAY to AVOID that.

i think people got used to the song because of the charisma of the contestants, it's a bit of a halo effect. the song is aweful.

How ungrateful. Just because their unit sounds terrible singing the song, doesn't mean they should discredit it as a whole.

There are around 20 *grateful* PD101 TV Show participants, at least. The IOI Group is doing *very* well. Also, the IBI Group, comprised of those who BARELY MISSED the IOI Group, are doing pretty well too. The ANT WAIST of KIM SOHEE is rather memorable! ... ;-)

And they perform the original version with no re-recorded vocals to ruin it. All P101 girls do the same because they are smarter.

Pick me was super catchy. I went from loving it to suddenly saying: "ok, can you please get this song outta my head"? The dance is fun to do although it doesn't showcase vocals in the best way, it sounds more like they're chanting than singing.

the song didnt have much lines and it lacked things like high notes and such, which will be "challenging" for a main vocal, the song was designed to be easy to sing and follow, hence the use of a hook, repeating words to make it easy for Grade A to F trainees in Produce 101. being a 1st mission song, it's aim was to "unite" all 101 girls in a mega MV, and not to challenge their abilities much yet. But the addictive EDM feel, made it popular i guess.

Yes, my view, what can be WORSE, is when the THEME SONG is *overly* melodramatic! ... And becomes like over bearing and eventually BORING! ... MUCH BETTER to just have a song that is SIMPLE, and does *not* pretend to be anything else.
