Shinhwa's Dongwan has again proved that he's dedicated to charity, this time by donating to homes of single mothers.

According to reports on July 21, Dongwan donated an amount of 46,000,000 KRW (approximately 40,000 USD) to the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation's single mothers program, after learning that funds for homes of single mothers have been cut back in recent years.

Last year, Dongwan also donated to help children from low-income families through the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation. In previous years, Dongwan has often given to countless charities and causes, including aid for disasters like the Sichuan Earthquake, Typhoon Haiyan, and the Nepal Earthquake, as well as welfare facilities for former comfort women, and more.

Dongwan is currently a part of ongoing musical 'Edgar Allen Poe'.

Don't have any intention for being harsh. But I'm curious, in Korea, is it really big deal for celebs donating something and everyone should know about that till make it to news like this? Because celebs in my country always do lot of charities and volunteer works but nothing get publicity. We just thought it's something like common thing among us. So, nothing so special. It just we know them do that since we see them around that works. That's why I wonder why some celebs in Korea has this kinda news.

As far as I know, Dongwan ssi's agency is not the first to break news each time. But I think he usually donates through some public charity schemes/programmes for the same reason somebody quoted below regarding "use for the right cause". I have watched I live Alone with him, and the way the rest of the cast (celebrities) reacted to one of his previous donations made it seem like only few in the industry (unless they are top-notch,maybe) do such things. Donations are for corporates and not celebrities in S.Korea, i think. I could be wrong. This was what I understood about their social system.

I see. Because in my country, celebs tend to give donation with the initial 'no name' so their donation won't go for public. People tends to call them attention seeker if they do donations with publicity. The big society organization in Korea perhaps pretty bad if he can't trust them.

That is very good for him but sometimes I feel like celebrities always tell the media, my point is if you're going to do something kind, do it from the heart and not for the attention.

He shared the reason why he lets the public know about his donations. “I like to let it be known that I donate. People always worry that the money that they give might not be used in the right way. I wanted to make sure that the money would be well used if I let others know.”

Also he said that he was inspired by someone else good deed so he hopes that with his actions he can inspire others too. Although donating should be kept in secret, the positive side is that he may inspire many others. Whether someon does it for attention, for just doing it or both, in the end he is helping people in need and may inspire others to do the same, so I find it admirable 😄
