From the very start on 25th May to her end this past Tuesday on 10th November, it's perhaps fitting to say that Go Hyun Jung has really excelled in her role as Mishil and carried the drama, Queen Seon Duk even though she was not the main character. You might hate Mishil more often than not as she plots with her minions again and again to take over Shilla, but you can't deny that her role was pivotal to the development of the other characters in the drama, most notably, Deokman played by Lee Yo Won and advancement of the storyline. In the end, all she wanted was to rule Shilla for she loved it more than anyone else, and all that was in her way was that she wasn't of sacred bone status and Deokman. And ultimately, she decides to end the civil war and her life because of her love for Shilla. Her excellent portrayal saw the the lifespan of her role get extended and with it came the addition of 12 more episodes to the original scheduled 50. Go Hyun Jung really made Mishil come to life with her charismatic potrayal of someone who was intelligent, unassuming, downright scary and yet there was still some good in her, in particularly the interests of Shilla, Bidam and Lord Seolwon. And when one reminisces about the drama in future, most would be talking about Mishil more than any other characters because Go Hyun Jung was just that awesome. And If everything goes to plan, MBC should be awarding the Daesang (Grand Prize) to her at the 2009 MBC Drama Awards this December. The passing of Mishil in Episode 50 will mean that the drama enters into the final phase, without an important character and much will rest on the shoulders of Lee Yo Won as Deokman, Uhm Tae Woong as Kim Yushin, Kim Nam Gil as Bidam and Yoo Seung Ho as Kim Chunchu to fill the big void left behind by Mishil's death in the coming weeks.
