The never-ending chase to remember names of idol group members

Here are some simple math problems for you guys:
Wonder Girls=5-1+1-1+1
Super Junior=12+1-1
After School=5+1-1+2+1

Do these numbers sound familiar to you? It should because the numbers correlate to the number of members for current active idol groups.

Idol groups have been experiencing a lot of member changes due to new members and members that decide to leave the groups.

People are so confused these days because they don’t know who’s who in the idol groups. It’s hard to memorize all the names and faces of the members. It’s even hard these days to keep up with the number of members. Some are getting fed up because the whole idol group phenomenon is something they can’t even enjoy.

The first reason why it’s become a challenge to keep up with idol groups is because there are so members in each group. SNSD has nine members, Super Junior had 13, ZE:A has nine as well and After School has eight. The list really goes on.

Another big issue is member changes. Wonder Girls started out with five members but then member HyunA left, Yubin joined, Sunmi left and then finally Hye Lim joined. Super Junior began with 13 members but Kibum seems to have vanished from the public eye, Hangeng left and Kangin is now serving in the army.

After School is one of the most confusing group in recent times. They started with only five members but had UEE joining them in the middle. Then, Soyoung left, with Raina and Nana were added as replacements. Randomly, another member, Lizzy joined and they’re even looking for an extra member at the moment.

Even with 2PM, ex-leader Jay Park left and is now a solo artist. Recently in T-ara, they added a new member too.

Do you think it’s hard to keep up with idol members?

  1. For me, remembering Super Junior’s names is a breeze since I literally spent HOURS on YouTube watching all of their shows and music videos.(:

  2. ugh, most definitely…so that’s why i stopped trying. lol

  3. it’s hard to keep up, especially now that more and more idol groups are appearing.
but if you love said groups, keeping up is never a problem.

  4. with WG… JYP just keeps on showing how his members are replaceable… it’s sad~
but when i think about it, it’s meant to be, don’t you think so too?
if Hyuna was with WG, then she would be with them while touring in the US, and then she wouldn’t be legible to record Invincible Youth with G7~ and we’re not even sure if Woobin would’ve debuted in a different group by then!
so i think it’s all meant to be.. no? {:]

  5. exactly. i always liked groups who started out together, and reach fame together as they were when they first started. i think that way they can really appreciate and feel a sense of pride in wat they accomplished. thats why i love BB so much.

  6. It took me a while to remember who was who in Suju because I wasn’t really into them but when I started to like them more I remembered who everyone was like this *snaps fingers*
I never had a problem remembering 2pm and SHINee was super easy for me because there’s only 5 of them…and I love them so much it’s crazy.

  7. Yes sometimes….but I still love<3 them :D

  8. It’s not hard if you really like the idol group

  9. i wish school were this easy

  10. When you love the group it comes easy to you whether members are added or subtracted but when you dont sometimes you’re completely obvious to the names or you just dont care

  11. Its way too hard to keep up with them. I dont even try anymore unless I really really like them. ^_^

  12. SNSD = 9.
    I like that.

  13. It’s not hard to keep up with the idols I care about.

  14. answer:yes

  15. I started listening to kpop because of Rain and when I first saw SNSD I was like how can anyone remember all those people. Then I saw Super Junior and I was like OMG. Thank God for variety shows because if they weren’t on them there’s no way I would be able to connect with them individually. I never saw a group with more than five members until I started listening to kpop. I adore many of the members of these groups due to variety shows but I think I tend to connect more with groups like SHINee, Kara, 2NE1, Big Bang, etc because no one’s getting lost in the shuffle.

  16. honestly, there are way too many members. i thought lizzy was actually one of the two added, but i didn’t know that she was actually another addition. it’s not like i mean to mix them up because i’m good with names and faces, but i seriously can’t tell with so many people coming out in the industry.

i can’t call them artists anymore, more like 2 artists and maybe the rest are backdancers. it’s so rare to see great groups like dbsg or shinee, who each have great talents or at least get a fair amount of screen time each (i mean, being said, not even minho gets enough).

then again, there ARE talented singers (though to call them artists is a bit different – singers just sing, but artists truly bring lyrics to life or bring something new, like bobby kim, 2ne1, big bang, etc.)

it’s sad because artistry is going down. i’m not saying this in respect to the american music industry because that would just be ethnocentric, but i’m talking about music quality in general. so many songs sound the same!
