Although the show does not flaunt massive viewership in contrary to other programs in the same time-slot (for example, 1N2D), Danbi has often been highly praised due to its good and heartwarming purpose. However, after a short nine-month run, an announcement was made by MBC that the show will be coming to an end soon.
It has also been told that the main reason of the show’s cancellation was due to an unexpected withdrawal of one of the main sponsors. The program has suffered a huge loss in budget ever since, leaving the program with no other choice but to cancel its broadcast because of the huge operating cost.
However, it turns out that the program is not cancelled permanently, but rather temporarily.
Danbi’s main producer Kim Young Hee explained, “We believe we have a chance of success once we shift our broadcast to another time-slot. We once had a broadcast on a weekday, and our viewership increased to 15%. We then concluded that many people still have interest in the show. We still have a large amount of money donated by viewers (aka ‘Danbi drops’) left, and several companies have contacted us after releasing the cancellation announcement, offering their sponsorship we need.”
It’s very relieving to hear this news, especially with so many around the world still needing Danbi’s help.
