With the emotional responses and wild box office success that 71-Into the Fire has triggered, it should come as no surprise to fans that this war movie has made the big jump to the American silver screen. That’s right – Kwon Sang Woo, T.O.P and more will be reaching an American audience in exactly a month.
Director Lee Jae Han has cited this film as his “ambitious work” in the past, telling the press, “I gave special attention to the visuals. I concentrated on each scene in order to make them beautiful.” With a 11.3 billion won (~$900,000 USD) budget for production, this movie has received domestic & international acclaim for capturing the zeitgeist and tragedy of the Korean War.
Following its June 16 premiere, 71-Into the Fire surpassed the two million ticket milestone in Korea alone yesterday. On an international platform, this war epic was screened as the closing film for this year’s Hawaii International Film Festival. Furthermore, 71-Into the Fire has already been sold to the United Kingdom’s Showbox and Germany & Switzerland’s Ascot Elite, indicating potential releases in Europe as well.
As Lotte Entertainment announced today, 71-Into the Fire will open in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Washington and Philadelphia on July 30 in theater chains such as AMC and MPARK4. Fourteen screens have been confirmed; however, this number may increase if the movie does well in the box offices.
