'The Roundup: Punishment' races towards record-breaking success

AKP STAFF

The movie, "The Roundup: Punishment" is rapidly approaching the ten million mark with an impressive momentum. With this pace, it could potentially surpass the record of 'The Roundup' which was the first film to achieve ten million admissions after the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the integrated ticketing system, 'The Roundup: Punishment' (directed by Hur Myung-hwan, produced by Big Punch Pictures) surpassed eight million viewers as of 8 a.m. on the 6th.

Released on the 24th of last month, 'The Roundup: Punishment' reached one million admissions in just two days, followed by two million on the fourth day, three million on the seventh day, four million on the fifth day, five million on the seventh day, six million on the ninth day, and seven million on the eleventh day, finally crossing the eight million mark on the thirteenth day, accumulating viewers at a rapid pace.

Realistically, breaking the records of films such as 'Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days' and 'Extreme Job' may not be easy. However, if it achieves its goal by this weekend, 'The Roundup: Punishment' will stand alongside films like 'Train to Busan,' 'A Taxi Driver,' and 'Avengers: Infinity War,' which took 19 days to reach ten million admissions, placing it in joint seventh place for the fastest time to achieve ten million admissions.

It remains to be seen whether 'The Roundup: Punishment' will succeed in surpassing ten million admissions, solidifying its position as the first Korean film series to have three ten million films, and whether it will achieve significant results by breaking existing records.

Meanwhile, 'The Roundup: Punishment' depicts the crime cleanup operation led by Jang I-soo (Park Ji-hwan), who returns to confront the villain Baek Chang-gi (Kim Moo-yeol), a former special forces mercenary leading a large-scale illegal online gambling organization, and IT industry genius CEO Jang Dong-cheol (Lee Dong-hwi), alongside the Gwangsu Squad and the Cyber Team, featuring monster detective Ma Seok-do (Ma Dong Suk).

i'm amazed that this movie is doing so well, considering it's basically just a rehash of the previous movie, which was a rehash of its own predecessor.
