The topic is trending on community message board Pann after one netizen shared the infographic of sales below along with a message explaining the rationale behind their skepticism.

The poster wrote, "With this kind of buzz, they should be #1 on the 'Billboard 200,' and they could be touring all around the world in stadiums. It's impossible to sell at this level only in Asia, and the only countries where physical albums are being sold are Korea and Japan. With only those 2 countries alone though, it's impossible to sell 5 million copies with just buzz alone. In the end, what drives physical sales are US, Europe, and other Western markets, and you need to blow up over there as well, but they don't have any reaction in Western countries. So how is it that Seventeen can sell at the level of Taylor Swift? It's hard to even spot Seventeen's album on European charts in UK, France, Germany, etc. If you look at other countries or even Japan, it's strange for a group to sell this many copies. When you look domestically, it's strange to have a group like Seventeen selling this much when they've never been at the hype level of EXO, BTS or Wanna One."
