Controversy brews over parents of 'I-Land 2: N/a' contestants asking their company employees to vote

AKP STAFF

Earlier this week, posts on an online community revealed that some parents were spreading notices via their company boards, asking employees to vote for their daughter on Mnet's latest idol survival program, 'I-Land 2: N/a'.

One community user posted a notice that read,

"Title: Participation in Audition Voting
The daughter of ***, owner of franchise location 'A', is currently participating in the Mnet audition program 'I-Land 2'. I would like to ask all employees to cast their votes for Ms. *** so that she can debut."

Another community user revealed a similar notice, this time noting that these notices were coming too frequently, to the point of annoyance. The notice read,

"[General Affairs] Urgent Notice to All Employees
Greetings to all our beloved employees. This is Chief *** of General Affairs.
The oldest daughter, Ms. ***, of our respected President *** is currently participating on the Mnet and WAKEONE idol audition program, 'I-Land 2'. All employees, please cast your vote for Ms. *** for her continued participation on this program."

The second community user also complained about the president of their company promoting 'I-Land 2' by playing the theme song loudly in the company lounge, causing a disturbance.

While some netizens felt that these parents were simply "asking acquaintances" and that there did not seem to be anyone "monitoring employees to make sure they voted", others argued that there might be "pressure" involved if a company's superiors were asking their lower-ranked co-workers to vote.

Some said, "If they feel some kind of pressure or if they are penalized for not voting, that would be power abuse", "Why can't they distinguish between work and private life?", "If I received that notice, I would purposely vote for someone other than their daughter", "I can't imagine that a good president would actually ask that of his employees", "If it's the daughter of another regular employee, a notice like this would not be a big deal, but the daughter of the company president..?", "If they're pressuring employees to vote every time the voting resets, that would be pretty cumbersome", "The fact that it was written by other employees at the president's beck and call proves that it's power abuse," etc.

Meanwhile, Mnet's 'I-Land 2: N/a' airs every Thursdays.

Mnet ... seriously. Newsflash ... the winners are already decided. Haaa! Do ppl still watch these shows? They were good entertainment once upon a time but surely they've passed their expiry date. So we will end up getting a debut of yet another idol group. Like there aren't enough already?
